Manga rental
In Japan you can rent manga in some places, for example in some Tsutaya shops. It is interesting the Tsutaya strategy, they showcase manga in shelves looking like DVDs. Look at the pictures, it looks like it is all full of rental DVDs but it is not, it is manga!

One volume, three days (70 yen). One volume, during one week (90 yen). If you rent more than 10 volumes the prices are even lower.

My wife does this in the US and its 40 a month for all you can read, so that works out to about 70 cents per rental. At least for her.

renting manga, it sound like a good idea but what happens if the manga is damaged when returned, how much is the fee?

Have one near my house but it’s 50 cent per manga and it’s covered in plastic wrappings.
There’s a pay less bookstore too. You sell/buy old novels or mags. Sometimes I can get a pretty new novel sold by other ppl at the bookstore. ;P

There’s a manga rental store not too far from my house. The selection, unfortunately is very limited.
They don’t even carry popular manga like Beck or Slam Dunk.
