Shinjuku during the last 35 years

Por kirai el 11 de September de 2007 en Architecture, Tokyo

My brother and Haripako sent me this video that shows how skyscrapers appear in Shinjuku (Tokyo) since 1969 until 2004.

Shinjuku’s financial area development during the last decades changed the city’s activity area from the “east side” to the “west side”. Lately, some new buildings are being built in the “west side” around Tokyo/Yurakucho/Ginza, maybe the main activity area will go back to the traditional center of Tokyo located around Nihonbashi.

I didn’t have 35 years to take pictures, but here there are some Shinjuku pictures I took during the last 3 years.

The view from those tall buildings must be incredible.

  2. These skyscrapers look better than the ones in LA and NYC

  3. sheerblade: yes, views are incredible. You can even see Mount Fuji if it’s a clear day.

elyte: maybe is because LA or NYC skyscrapers are much older.

I heard somewhere that in Tokyo there aren’t many buildings older than like 25 years… or was it 5.

  5. Did you took these pictures your self? It looks great!

  6. [...] At the East side of Shinjuku there are many skyscrapers. There is a new one, that is being built that caught my attention. It has a characteristic shape that reminds me the Agbar tower in Barcelona or Dubai’s Burj_Al_Arab building. The new Shinjuku skycraper will be called “Shinkousha” at it will be 203.65 meters tall.
