Video game guides
Many Japanese bookstores have some shelves filled with video game guides. There are huge guides, some of them have more than one volume! Those big ones explain even the most “stupid” detail about the game. There will be a day when you need to graduate from university in order to be able to finish a game.
Lately I’m playing Super Mario Galaxy (It’s great) and some various DS games recommended by Aitor, Danny Choo and Ale/Pepino. These are some pictures I took in a huge department store in Akihabara.

Those are all video game books!

I only buy guidebooks for retro or obscure games. They are so 20th century, yet they look so yummy…

The reason some of them go into such intricate detail is because some people are horrible at doing things without having something explained to them in a really detailed way. Like me, I can’t stand when someone tells me to do something with a really vague explanation.

Haha they even have FFXI ones! The American versions of those were incredibly stupid.

from 100 yen until 2000~3000 yen depending if it’s a new game, or old…. if it’s a used guide.

And the more popular the game is, the more companies make a book for it full of inane details. I remember Kingdom Hearts (as easy as that game was) had no less than 10 books on it when it released, so I wouldn’t even want to see the amount of books devoted to games like MGS4 or any newer RPG (can’t think of a Japanese one offhand). Hector, have you played the DS Fist of the North Star? If so, how is it? I’m thinking of picking it up.

I’m playing Super Mario Galaxy with my girlfriend. We got about 50 stars or so right now and it’s loads of fun!
